On Monday,August 31st, Tropical Storm Earl formed in the Bay of Campeche (the Southern Arm of the Gulf of Mexico). At first he had 35 kts(40 mph) winds and moving N towards Louisiana. Earl moved towards Louisiana from 8-31 until 9-1 1700 edt(5 pm) when Earl made a turn to the ENE and heading towards NW Florida. At this time Earl had winds of 50 kts (60 mph) & 998 mb/29.47" pressure. On Wedneday 9-2, Earl grew stronger. By 1700 edt(5 pm), Earl had winds of 85 kts (100 mph) and a 989 mb/29.21" pressure.
By this time my barometer began to fall. At Midnight 9/2 it was reading 29.90"/1013 mb. By 2300 edt(11 pm) it was reading 29.78"/1008.5 mb. A fall of 4.5 mb. Starting at Noon 9/2 it began to rain lightly. By 2300 edt(11 pm), 0.20" of rain fell.
By Thursday the morning, the barometer had bottomed out @ 29.60"/1002.5 mb. It was a windy with the wind average of about 7 mph all day. I had a 23 mph wind gust. 0.79" of rain fell. By late afternoon, the sky was clear and the remants of Earl where racing in North Carolina.
