The drought of 2006-07 continues into October entering its 20th month/w Oct. warmer and
and much wetter than normal. It was +2.5º above normal for the avg. temp and +5.09" surplus for
the month and +1.89" surplus for the year but there is still a -2.00" deficit from last yr. The
month was wet in the beginning and from the middle to the end of the month in combination of a
cold front approaching on the 18th and passing on the 19th and stalling over S FL and lifting back
as a warm front on the 22nd causing showers/t-storms. Another cold frontal passage occurred on the
24th followed by the onset on the 2nd round nor'easter conditions lasting until the 29th when
Hurricane Noel passed a few hundred miles offshore to the E-NE.
From NWS Jax October 2007 climatological summary for Jacksonville Florida:
"However...Nor'easter conditions in the beginning of the month and again at the end of the month
brought heavy rains to Jacksonville Beach...Southside and mandarin. Rainfall amounts ranged from
12 to over 15 inches which caused flooding of low areas and streets. Coastal flooding from
northeast winds and high astronomical tides occurred from Fernandina Beach down to Flagler Beach.
Serious beach erosion occurred in this area."
US Drought Monitor started as DO - Abnormally Dry to start the month on Oct 2nd. By Oct 9th,
it was analyzed to be None and this presisted through the rest of the month.
The highest temp. occurred on the 23rd @ 88.9°F, which was a near record. The lowest temp was
51.1°F on the 12th. The highest peak wind of 30 mph occurred on 1st during first nor'easter.
