The drought of 2006-07 continues into its 16th month/w June being slightly cooler and
much wetter than normal. It was -1.0º below normal for the avg. temp and +5.13" surplus
for the month and -2.54" deficit for the year. The rainfall was spread out across the
month with the most occurring on the 2nd as Tropical Storm Barry affected the area with
4.02" of rain falling. The US Drought Monitor started as D3 - Extreme Drought and lowered
to D2 - Severe Drought by 6/5 across the northern 1/3 of the county and the whole area
was down to D1 - Moderate drought by 6/19. On the 2nd, Tropical Storm Barry affected the
region bringing benefincial rain to the entire state. For the rest of the month, the
local area was dominated by weakening cold fronts becoming stationary increasing rainfall
for days at a time and moderating the temperatures with highs in the lower 80ºs.
90º was reached 15 times with the first month of summer reaching a max of 98.0º unlike
this time last yr when 100º+ was reached. The peak wind of 28 mph occurred on the 5th with
a thunderstorm. The lowest pressure of the year set thus far @ 29.554" set in April was
broken with a 29.517" reading on the 2nd with the passage of Barry.
