The drought of 2006-07 continues into its 17th month/w July being slightly cooler and
much wetter than normal. It was -1.0º below normal for the avg. temp and +6.67" surplus
for the month and +5.57" surplus for the year but there is still a -3.41" deficit from last yr.
Rainfall was spread out across the month in combination with weak frontal passages/stationary
fronts with rain on the first 4 days then none for a week. 5 days of rain occured in the middle
of the month (12-16) with another 4 day gap then rain occurred during the last two weeks of the
month as a trough in the middle-upper levels of the atmosphere persists along the Eastern Seaboard
in combination with several weak stationary fronts. The US Drought Monitor persisted as
D1 - Moderate Drought through the entire month. The highest temp. occurred on the 10th @ 98.1°F with
it yet to reach 100°F for the summer or yr. The lowest temp. occurred on the 23rd with a near record
low of 63.2°F following a weak cold frontal passage the day before. The highest peak wind was 26 mph
in a thunderstorm on the 15th. 4 days of Red Flag Conditions occurred during July maintaining
the long term drought conditions.
