1998 was an overall very warm year and wet year. The warm temps (above 85ºF) started in Feburary and lasted through December. The highest temp. was 109ºF in June. 109ºF is an all time record for my station that still stands. As I stated earlier, it was a warm year and the lowest temp was only 30.7ºF in January. Although it was a wet year with above normal rainfall, there was 2 drought phases. The first started in April and lasted through July. During this period, we went into severe drought with Firestorm 1998 raging in June. During June, the sky smokey most of the time. July saw a return to the rain which help put out the fires although it was still below normal rainfall by about 1.5". The second was from October-December. January-March saw too much rain. Feburary saw flooding rains as in a 3 day period from 2/14-2/17, 10.05" of rain fell with single day total of 5.75" on 2/17 and a two day total of 9.15" during 2/16-2/17. I experiened 1 Tropical Cyclone. Hurricane Earl passed within 150 miles on 9/3. The barometer fell to 29.60" during the passage of Earl. The lowest pressure for the year was 29.25" which is the all-time record for my station and for the month of Feburary.
